Woodland With Former Limekilns For Auction

Published: 24/03/2026

More than 11 acres of mixed broadleaf woodland on the site of a former quarry and limekilns near the market town of Oswestry is going up for auction.

The woodland at Llawnt, which has a guide price of £40,000 to £45,000, will be sold at our next Collective Property & Land Auction held at our Shrewsbury headquarters on Friday 1 May at 2pm.

The rural hamlet of Llawnt is located close to the Welsh border, just 2.5 miles from Oswestry. The woodland comprises 11.16 acres of mature and semi-mature, predominantly broadleaf tree species, interspersed with self-set trees and scrub.

The site has two disused quarry holes and two former limekilns, one of which is Grade II Listed. The listing describes the early 19th century limekiln as an arched structure of roughly coursed limestone rubble construction.

Access to the woodland is from the Llawnt to Selattyn road, where a short track leads to a small clearing.

“This woodland sale represents a rare opportunity to purchase an intriguing corner of England, with a multitude of potential uses,” said Louise Preece, Head of Rural Professional Services.

“Viewing is by appointment and we advise potential buyers to exercise caution because of the uneven terrain.”
